Hi, I’m Wasim!
Associate teaching professor, journalist, and photographer
I teach multimedia journalism at Quinnipiac University and write about photography for Fstoppers.com.
About me
Before teaching journalism at Quinnipiac University, where I’ve been since 2019, I worked for a few newspapers in Minnesota, Florida and upstate New York. I’ve previously taught at Syracuse University and Stony Brook University, and have spent a couple of years working in the photo industry as a technical specialist for Canon USA. I’ve also been a senior staff writer for Fstoppers.com, producing several articles a month for one of the largest photography websites.
I earned a Ph.D. in mass communications from Syracuse University in 2025, where I also earned a master of science in photography in 2010. I earned my bachelor’s in English from Binghamton University in 2004. My research interests centered around diversity/technology issues and how they affect the journalism industry.
My work has been recognized by the Freedom Forum and the Center for Innovation in College Media, but by far the accomplishment I’m most proud of is the 2014 “Seniors’ Choice” award for best professor in the School of Journalism at Stony Brook University.
When I’m not journalizing or teaching, I spend time watching science fiction with my son and daughter, and often find myself in front of a lighthouse for hours trying to get a perfect photo.
